Born in 1969 and raised in Los Angeles, California, Bumdog Torres dropped out of school after the 7th Grade. In his early twenties he began traveling across the United States and Europe. When he returned to Los Angeles he self published his writings in chapbook he called ‘Sketches of Nothing by a Complete Nobody’. He also wrote and performed in a one man play titled ‘Masturbation Theatre Presents’.
Whilst sleeping in a parking lot in downtown Los Angeles Bumdog embarked on producing, directing, writing and starring in a feature film based on his book ‘Sketches of Nothing by a Complete Nobody’. Following this, he lived in Maui and Thailand for over seven years. On his return to Los Angeles in 2014 Bumdog began a series of photography projects while still homeless. In 2020 he was commissioned to write a number of photo essays charting life on the streets during the Covid pandemic. To date he has self published five photobooks: #findthebumdog: A Homeless Man’s Development as a Street Photographer While on the Streets, Six Feet Back From Life: A Homeless Man’s Photo Essays of Life During Coronavirus, Happiness is a Service to God: A Black Bum’s Photographs of a Orthodox Jewish Community, Hollywood Dogs & Tangerine Land.
